Audience Profile

Who is my audience going to be?
  • The genre of my trailer will be horror. Horror films are commonly targeted at young people from the age range of 15 to 25. 15 is an age that is acceptable for the age certificates and mature enough to not be too scared by horror films and 25 is still young enough to enjoy being scared and excited by a horror film.
  • The age range for my target audience will be 15-25, this is because it is the common target audience for horror films and they will be the group who the trailer is best suited to. Their socio-economic group that this audience will be part of is category E, as the majority of people aged 15-25 will be students at school or university or unemployed.
  • My target audience will be both male and female as the trailer will not be limited to attracting one gender and the horror genre appeals to a wide range of both female and male audiences.
How do the target audience spend their time and what do they like?

  • My target audience will be primarily students, therefore they will be likely to spend their time between studying and attending school, socialising with friends and using the internet. 
  • The target audience will be likely to enjoy watching films especially of the horror genre, this could include going to the cinema or watching films at home. The target audience may enjoy using the internet; for social media and streaming which could be a potential way for promoting the film trailer.
Secondary audience

  • The secondary audience for my trailer will be between the ages of 25-50, this group of people may enjoy going to the cinema as they will most likely have more disposable income and be in the B or C socio economic categories. This audience may be interested in the film as they may have children or relatives who are interested in seeing the film or have heard through word of mouth about the film.

  • When identifying the psyhcographics of both the primary and secondary target audience, they will both be likely to be 'explorers' who like taking risks. This is because they will be outgoing, adventurous and being scared for enjoyment. This makes them a perfect audience for a horror film as they are likely to enjoy feelings of adrenaline and excitement from being scared.
