Location Recces

There are two locations that I will be using for the filming of my movie trailer, they are Plantsbrook School and Sutton Park.

Plantsbrook School:

-This will be the starting location of my trailer, where the school scenes will be filmed featuring a young group of friends, the filming here will take place in the day time.

Sutton Park:

-Sutton Park is the other key location for my movie trailer, the wood scenes will take place here as the key factor in the trailer is the setting of the 'haunted woods'. The filming here will take place in evening/night time to emphasise the 'spooky' setting.

Script

Maisie, Jess, Emily, Tom, Sam, Monster

School scene:
Maisie: 'I can't wait to celebrate finishing school with this night in the woods'
Jess: 'we can't let anyone tell their parents where we're going'
Emily: 'all of the stories are just myths it can't actually be haunted'
Tom: 'you all need to stop worrying and relax, it will be funny'

Woods:
Maisie: 'it's so dark and scary here, anyone could follow us and we wouldn't even realise'
Jess: 'don't say that, it would not happen we're all here together'
Tom (to Emily): 'if you don't tell her I won't'
Emily: 'I can't keep it a secret for any longer'
Sam:'what are you two talking about?'
Jess: 'yeah what aren't you telling me?'
Emily: 'nothing it doesn't matter'

Jess: 'I don't want to stay here i'm going home'
Maisie:'Jess just stay, it's only a little argument, and it means nothing, it will sort itself out'
Sam:'lets just get set up and everything will be fine, we need to have a good time'

(Boys and Emily go off into distance, there is the sound of a scream from the woods but no one takes any notice of this)

Emily: 'Jess, I need to tell you something'
Jess: 'I knew something was up, tell me what it is, now'
Emily:'i'm really sorry but i'm the reason you and Tom have been arguing, something happened at that party'
Jess: 'are you being serious?!'
(Jess storms off and the others return)

Tom: 'Jess wait come back here'
(Jess runs off)
Emily: 'I had to tell her, she'll be fine in a while she just needs some time'

(20 mins passes)

Maisie: 'i'm starting to get really worried about where Jess is'
Tom:'we'll all go and look for her, she might have calmed down by now'
(the group can hear laughing in the woods)
Sam: 'isn't this Jess' jacket? (picks up jacket off the floor of the woods)
Emily: 'Something's wrong, I know it'

(trail of blood is shown and one character gets dragged across the floor)

Tom:'follow this trail of blood'
(they see a figure in the distance heading towards them)
Emily:'run!'
Sam:'phone the police, we need to report this'
Maisie: 'yes, someone phone them now'
(Tom tries to phone the police and it won't go through)
Emily: 'get back in the car, we have no choice, it's not safe here'

(they all run away back to the car and speed off to the police station not knowing where Jess is)

Updated Narrative

 A group of school friends who have been close all the way through school are getting to the end of their school career.  Most of the girls in the group have boyfriends.

They all plan a group celebration to mark the end of their school career after their final exams.  They decide to have a wild weekend in the woods, with music, drinking, skinny- dipping, partying and just generally letting their hair down. They know that the local woods have a reputation as not being a safe place.  The parents of the group have warned their children since they were young that it is not a place they should go to.  They make a pact not to tell their parents the truth about where they are going.  There are lots of local stories about the woods being haunted and a place where awful things happen.  They were the scene of a horrific mass murder many years ago when their parents were teenagers and there are lots of subsequent tales of people going missing in the woods over the years since.  The group of friends just see these tales as myths without any real substance.  They see going into the woods for the weekend as a rite of passage that will mark the end of one era and the start of a new one as they all prepare to go off to Uni. They plan to spend the weekend after the last exam in the woods, finding a suitable place deep within them to go camping and party undisturbed.  They discuss their plans secretly with each other.  When they all set off excitedly on their adventure it becomes clear here is some tension between one of the couples.  They don’t seem to be getting along as well as usual.

When they get to the woods they park up and empty the cars.  They carry their camping gear and supplies into the woods to find a suitable clearing to set up camp.  The woods are dark and eerie and they joke about the ghosts of the murder victims coming back to haunt them.  When they set up camp strange things start to happen…….

A group of 3 girls and their boyfriends decide to go into the woods near to where they live, as they go there often and think of it as a safe place, they decide the camping trip is a good idea as they have just finished school and plan the trip as a mark of celebration. One of the girls and their boyfriends are having tension little does the girl know its because of one of her friends knowing a dirty little secret about her boyfriend cheating on her the previous weekend and has said “if you dont tell her i will”. On the day they load their tent and belongings into the car where one of the girls tells the others about the tension shes been having with her boyfriend and feels that its not a good idea as she feels awkward. Her friend feels guilty and realises she needs to tell her friend this weekend as she can tell its making her friend really down. When they go on the camping trip they leave when its light so they can find a suitable place near the cars and on the main path, they are seen walking through the forest where they eventually get to a spot suitable as it looked like a safe place. However on the way to the site an argument breaks out between the girl and her boyfriend and decides she wants to leave her friends persuade her to stay and suggest its only a pathetic argument and it will be resolved later.When getting to the site the lads go off and get wood and the girls set up the tent As they are setting up they hear the breaking of branches and a scream in the distance but as they see anything they continue setting up as it gets darker and think its the lads playing a prank on them. as the night goes on one of the girls goes into the tent to get ready for bed when the other girl decides its about time she told her friend the reason her and her boyfriend keep arguing. The friend gets up and storms off in tears The other two stay behind and let her clear her head , her boyfriend tries to catch upto her but she is gone by time he finds out whats happened, but has half an hour passes and there is no sign of their friend they get worried and decide to search for her and walk in the direction she went in, as they are searching for their friend they come across the jacket she was wearing and can hear laughing in the distance, they decide to follow the laugh where one of them suddenly gets dragged across the floor but no one is there but they can still hear laughing in the background further into the woods they find a patch of blood on the floor where there is a trail so they follow the trail where they see a mysterious figure in the distance heading towards them so they run back to the tent where the figure pursues them, when almost back at the campsite they lose sight of the figure and lock themselves into the tent where they try to call the police but there is no signal then a bloody handprint is then seen on the tent , they then start to scream and the mysterious figure runs off, they then run out of the tent and head towards the exit of the forest where the figure starts to pursue them . Near the exit on the girls goes missing and is seen getting dragged around on the floor and with no sign of their other friend they continue to exit when back in the car the mysterious figure is behind the car . They speed off and go straight to the police station and report the crime where they find out there is a serial killer on the run causing havoc.

Horror Film Title Conventions

    Conventions Of Film Titles in The Horror Genre:
   -The film titles all use colours which are associated with the horror genre such as red signifying blood and gore, black and white. which stand out.
-The titles use bold fonts with features that stand out, for example, the dripping effect on the Evil Dead 2 title which creates an effect of blood drooling which fits the horror genre.
-The titles either use no images or basic images which do not distract from the text, the images are either faded or in black and white.

Who is my audience going to be?

• The genre of my trailer will be horror. Horror films are commonly targeted at young people from the age range of 15 to 25. 15 is an age that is acceptable for the age certificates and mature enough to not be too scared by horror films and 25 is still young enough to enjoy being scared and excited by a horror film.
• The age range for my target audience will be 15-25, this is because it is the common target audience for horror films and they will be the group who the trailer is best suited to. Their socio-economic group that this audience will be part of is category E, as the majority of people aged 15-25 will be students at school or university or unemployed.
• My target audience will be both male and female as the trailer will not be limited to attracting one gender and the horror genre appeals to a wide range of both female and male audiences.

How do the target audience spend their time and what do they like?

• My target audience will be primarily students, therefore they will be likely to spend their time between studying and attending school, socialising with friends and using the internet. 
• The target audience will be likely to enjoy watching films especially of the horror genre, this could include going to the cinema or watching films at home. The target audience may enjoy using the internet; for social media and streaming which could be a potential way for promoting the film trailer.

Secondary audience

• The secondary audience for my trailer will be between the ages of 25-50, this group of people may enjoy going to the cinema as they will most likely have more disposable income and be in the B or C socio economic categories. This audience may be interested in the film as they may have children or relatives who are interested in seeing the film or have heard through word of mouth about the film.

• When identifying the psyhcographics of both the primary and secondary target audience, they will both be likely to be 'explorers' who like taking risks. This is because they will be outgoing, adventurous and being scared for enjoyment. This makes them a perfect audience for a horror film as they are likely to enjoy feelings of adrenaline and excitement from being scared.

Conventions of film trailers

Key conventions of film trailers:

• an audience title stating what audience the trailer is suitable for (e.g all audiences) including age certificates
• titles of the production and distribution companies of the film
• the title of the film; this is often shown at the beginning or end of the trailer
• the release date of the film
• a voiceover (either a character or a narrator)
• dialogue
• soundtrack
• editing (e.g cuts, fades, fades to black etc.)
• camera (shot types e.g close up, long shot, establishing shot)
• links to film websites or social media pages for the film are often included
• introduction of actors and actresses names (emphasising well-known or new actors and actresses)

Camera and Tripod Research

Tripod:

• extend the legs of the tripod to the correct height making sure it is level
• attatch the tripod and camera together using the screws
• move the tripod left and right or up or down for panning and tilting

Camera:

• after turning the camera on you are able to zoom in and out on shots depending on the desired shot type
